Udon Set

Someone took me to Tonkichi today
Had a udon set
The soup was heavenly
and the thin slices of pork swimming in the soup was very tasty
no pork smell at all
(i don't usually take pork and i don't like fried stuff.
i didn't want to spoil the person's fun by telling him that - because the restaurant specialises in pork dishes!!! And they are famous for their Japanese deep fried pork cutlet (katsu). They serve premium pork fillet (hire) and loins (rosu) that are crispy, juicy and tender.)
I didn't want to have those fried stuff.
So i chose a udon set that comes with udon with pork, prawn salad, and fried mashed potato.
It turned out to be very nice
So I had something different today - pork and no sashimi in a Japanese restaurant!

Flower Tea

I bought this very cool flower tea from Tea Pal at Marketplace (Raffles City) for my colleauge's brithday.
She is the one who introduced us to this type of flower tea some months ago when she took us to the Legend at Fort Canning.
So far that is the only restaurant I know that serves this unique tea.
So I found them selling the 'flowers' at Tea Pal and decided to get them for her.
Basically what you do is: you throw the flower into a mug, preferrably a clear glass one, and pour hot water into it, the flower will expand and the tea leaves surrounding the flower will start to give out its aroma...
the tea tastes nice and the flower is pretty to look at
And the metal tin is chic too...

C.H. Spurgeon

"May your convictions be deep, your love real, your desires earnest."
- C. H. Spurgeon

Whatever we do, we should do it with convictions.
Must have a cause for doing what we do... must believe in what we do...
And we must do it with love for people.
And earnestly desire to achieve success.
Success is not measured in monetary terms, or by whether we gain recognition or applause.
It is measured by whether people benefit from our work, whether we evoke positive changes in their lives.
That will be our contribution to humanity.
In a nutshell, we must live with convictions
It wil give meaning to life when we impart ourselves unto others, thus impacting them, impacting the world.

Roman Couple

this is a painting hung on the wall of my supervisor's room
i have been looking for it in google for a few days
finally found it

the man is holding a scroll
it depicts authority of a male because writings with ink on a pyparus is permanent
whereas the woman is holding a stylus and a template probably made of wax
meaning her writings are temporary - not to be taken seriously

it shows the patriachal, androcentric world of ancient days
(it's a roman painting - dunno which century, wished somebody can tell me)

pompeii

This is a painting found in pompeii
I wished I know more about it

Parkway Parade Raw Fish and Porridge

this is one of my favourite food - cantonese raw fish with porridge!
i love salmon sashimi
but i also love cantonese raw fish
that day i had some at bedok interchange
their porridge came with a crispy you tiao!
and it was quite cheap
fish was S$3 and the plain porrideg with the you tiao was only S$1.50
but the plate of raw fish was kind of little
the next time i go i will take a pic!

today i went to parkway parade
and had this in the picture
fish was S$5, the servig was much more than the S$3 one I got at Bedok Interchange
but their plain porridge costs S$3.20!
and no you tiao some more

so i ordered their century egg porridge
also S$3.20, funny...

it was altogether very nice!

Cakes

Durian Cake and Chocolate Mousse Cake

From the neighbourhood confectionery
The durian one was hopeless... let's hope that the chocolate one will taste better =p

Cool Bin

I spotted this bin near my market

Don't know who painted it
Cool right?!

Reminded me of some pics I took in Adelaide's Central Market using my previous camera (ie. lousy camera)

art on the bench
art on the escalator

dinner

Had dinner at this place

Bedok Laksa and Mangoes

Address is Bedok Noth Ave 2 Blk 418

(just across the road from the Interchange)
yummy laksa 加 hum
S$3.50
the gravy is not too lemak
i emptied the whole bowl and slurpped up every drop of the gravy haha..
you will love it especially if you like hums that are fresh and firm
and gravy that is not too lemak

and then i bought mangoes at the Interchange
3 fat ones for S$10
(wednesday night I saw two other stalls selling 4 fatter ones for S$10 but the stalls are not open today)
picture shows only two because I shared one with my mum when i came home
and they are placed next to a tablespoon to let you visualise the size
the flesh is firm but there's not much mango taste
so verdict is: they're not recommended

weekend

It's weekend!

So I went to Thompson Plaza for lunch
And had the same thing I had last Tuesday
: egg udon + sashimi

at Edo

They are very cheap!
udon only S$4.90
and 5pcs of salmon sashimi S$5
all before the plus plus
they give free flow of tea....

(last meal at restaurant before GST hike!)

after that i went to raffles city
mix has removed all their computers sheesh
so i couldn't surf there
so i went to ben and jerry next door
and had my first ben and jerry ice cream
: cherry garcia

then came home and slept until 12:30am!
no dinner!
so had a nua nua banana
and now i am eating this:-

my colleague loves to feed us this
i have a few of them
have brought them home from the office ...
